This is because each page uses PHP includes which are stored in a separate folder.

If you copied, Any changes ( to the header, footer, sidebars) will not be reflected in your new page.

The advantage of Includes is that you need only to make changes to the Included files and changes are applied sitewide.

Without this include, each time you make changes ( to eg the sidebar), you've got to do the same to every other pages. Includes take care of the repeated tasks.
